swimmer. runner. something

I have full time career as a special education teacher that doesn't pay enough and a part-time swim coaching position that I repeatedly try to quit (but it's kind of like the mafia, I can't get out.)
I was a mediocre swimmer growing up. Well, sort of. I was a mid-distance swimmer; 200 fly and 200 breaststroke were my favorite. My coach would turn around during the backstroke portions of my 400 IM's. I swam 500 freestyle during high school season, because there aren't any other good events during high school meets. I was a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, YMCA National Qualifier quite a few times over, etc. I think the biggest meet I ever qualified for was Missouri Grand Prix; it's not like I was all that great.

I swam Division I in college, but quit after a year for health reasons. I then proceeded to not swim more than a 500 at a time for about four years.

I tried getting back into swimming starting in the spring of 2012. Limited pool time, lack of a good masters team, and a myriad of other reasons has made it hard to really rededicate myself to swimming. I still goof around at the pool at least a few times a month, especially if I visit my parents.

I started running in the fall of 2012 when my roommate and I signed up for the Color Me Rad 5K. I walked a lot of it, and finished in around 45 minutes. I decided to try to improve from there, so maybe I could try the triathlon thing in the future. . . We'll see.

My current goal is to complete a marathon. I want to eventually do an Ironman.
